RUSINGA HILLS GROUP and its vision of sustainability

The Rusinga Hills group was registered as a self-help group in 2015, on one of the islands of Lake Victoria in the Homabay district.

The group of 15 members consists of 9 women and 6 men of various ages. The vision of the group is to create a sustainable livelihood for the people in the Rusinga community. They have defined their goals as follows:

  1. promoting education by supporting needy orphans and vulnerable children
  2. to improve the standard of living by identifying and directly supporting orphans and vulnerable children within the Community.

The members of this group jointly run a business selling maize, beans and peas to their village community. Sr. Maria Francisca is the local coordinator of the group and took part in the STARTHILFEKENIA training course which took place in Karungu in June 2018.
